about us

The Somerset Arms stood empty for months, the heart of the village gone. Simon and Sally passed by regularly with thoughts mounting about the possibilities it held. Although having no experience in the pub/restaurant sector, they had a great feeling about the pub in their village. With a background in interior design, Sally could already envisage the new look interior and how the accommodation could be made special. After much number crunching Simon felt that with a lot of work, support from the village and a prevailing wind, it could work! They also had a trump card, James, a passionate and energetic rising star, who had agreed to join the team as manager.

David, a great friend of the couple and an expert in all things practical, redesigned and built the bar and together with a bunch of very willing helpers ploughed through the necessary work. Three weeks later the pub re-opened its doors for the launch night. There was an amazing response and despite a few last minute glitches and a very testing till system, it was a great success with literally hundreds of local people stacking up at the bar and enjoying the atmosphere.

Two weeks later the restaurant opened and has gone from strength to strength. Our head chef Graham joined the team in September and his experience and enthusiasm for creating menus using only the best fresh local ingredients, coupled with James's passion for customer service means that the Somerset Arms offers customers a fantastic dining experience.
